Planet Petrofac environment month, our group-wide initiative, designed to encourage everyone to make a positive difference to the environment, has been hailed as a great success.

Employees from across our operations got involved in more than 30 individual initiatives throughout November, including tree planting, beach and river clean-ups, environmental lectures and health walks.

Many of the activities were suggested by employees to help local communities, charities and the wider environment, all with the aim of minimising the impact that individuals have on the environment.

Highlights of the campaign included the planting of more than 1,000 trees in Sharjah, Woking, Aberdeen and Chennai and clean-up events at Coral Beach, Sharjah and the Kugart River, Kyrgyzstan. A donation from Petrofac is also helping to fund clean-up exercises at canals and rivers around Woking in England. In Tunisia, members of the Hasdrubal project team visited Nakta School to raise awareness of environmental issues and highlight ways in which the children can make a difference to the environment.

Further to this, environmental lunchtime lectures were delivered in Woking and Mumbai whilst charities and schools in Kuala Lumpur, Mumbai and Aberdeen benefited from the donation of unwanted clothing and books.

John Methven, group director HSSE and integrity assurance for Petrofac was pleased with the level of engagement around the business: “I am delighted that the Planet Petrofac environment month has been successful and well received right across the group. The initiative has truly demonstrated the commitment of a large number of our employees in helping to improve our individual impact on the environment.

“Recognition for this success must go to all of the teams who have spent many months preparing the programmes and initiatives and to everyone that got involved in some way to lend their support.

“I believe this has been a great step in enhancing the environmental culture across all of our operational areas worldwide. Thanks and well done to all who took part and who have proved that small steps do make a big difference.”

Following the achievements of environment month and the awareness this has created within the group, it is hoped that employees will continue to consider the environment in all aspects of their working and personal lives.
