Kauther Gas Plant

Project:
Kauther Gas Plant
Customer:
Petroleum Development Oman
Location:
Oman
Start date:
July 2005
Completion:
October 2007
Project value:
US$ 240 million
Scope:

Engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, startup and one-year initial operations of gas plant and associated facilities involving:

  • Single-train gas conditioning and gas dehydration
  • Design capacity of 20 million standard cubic metres per day of wet gas
  • Condensate and water exported as mixed stream by 18" pipeline (by others) to new slugcatcher at Saih Rawl CPF, 106km away
  • Dry gas exported to Government gas line          (by others)
  • FEED
In July 2005, Petrofac secured a contract managed by Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) to build a new gas plant in the Kauther field in north Oman. It is a project with considerable challenges, the most significant being the demanding schedule. The transformation of barren desert in a remote location into a fully operational gas plant in 107 weeks demands a special combination of skills and a relentless desire to succeed.

The project involves the engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and initial operation of a 20 million standard cubic metres per day gas processing facility. The plant comprises a single gas conditioning and dehydration train. The unstabilised condensate and water are exported as a mixed stream via a 106km pipeline to new slugcatcher and degassing vessels within the existing Saih Rawl facility, thereby combining greenfield and brownfield activities.
